Victorian hair jewelry has long fascinated. It's incredibly rare, however, that a piece comes with multiple artifacts attesting to its provenance.
This piece is an ornate brooch, made of 10K yellow gold, with a 16mm x 10mm bezeled window, behind which is a woven bit of hair. Accompanying the piece are:
(1) what we assume is the original paper box, painted green, from G.W. Clarke & Co. in Montreal, Canada.
(2) the calligraphed paper note that the piece was originally presented with, which reads: "To Mabel R. Barker with the fond love of her parents on her birthday 21 Dec. 1882."
The note and brooch are in exquisite condition — the box is worn and the top is missing two sides.
